Perhaps the best thing for my sanity would be to not watch Fox News or read articles passed on to me from the Wall Street Journal or the New York Post, or even to react quotes attributed to Rush Limbaugh or Sean Hannity.

 

Rush, of course, has been quoted as saying that he hopes Obama fails. Do we need to pay attention to such madmen? He’s like the little boy who pulls his pants down to gain attention.

The Republican Party is silly.

 

They named a Black man, Michael Steele, to be the party chairman. I’m sure he will fit in comfortably in the social life of the big party donors, in their restricted gatherings.

 

And a brown man, Gov. Bobby Jindal of Louisiana, a man of Asian-Indian heritage, was the party’s chosen to respond to President Obama’s address to a joint session of Congress.

In the past, I have made it abundantly clear that I am no great admirer of the all-news and all-business cable TV channels. It is easy to point a finger at Fox with all of their right wing inanities, but the problem is much greater than the narrow world of Murdoch.

 

There is only so much news to report. They attempt to keep us tuned in with a broad array of shock and awe. As a younger man, I remain quite informed by reading the NY Times each day and tuning in to Cronkite, and later Dan Rat...
